Author Bio
At that time (1990’s), I was too young to have exchanged a traditional job or trade for joining the Royal Navy, so it was all I knew.
I cannot claim that I was a plumber or bricklayer who transitioned to a life at sea and probably for the best.
I recently turned 50 years old and my accounts now span over 30 years.
I would describe myself as slightly dyslexic, and by the government's recommended weekly alcohol consumption standards, I certainly appear to have an issue with drinking.
The inspiration for authoring this book occurred in 2022 during the 30-year anniversary of HMS Newcastle’s deployment to Orient 92. We convened at a pub just outside the Portsmouth dockyard called "The Ship Anson." Approximately 25-30 individuals attended, many of whom I had not seen since leaving the Newcastle three decades ago. It felt as if no time had passed; my shipmates were like family. They often remarked, ‘if only someone would write a book about us.’ As we reminisced about our exploits and adventures, numerous memories surfaced, filled with humorous encounters and stories. I thought, this has the potential to be a best-selling book—if people believe it! Thus, this book was conceived.
You can still find me in that sleepy North Warwickshire market town, albeit on the edge, in a peaceful village with my Sproodle dog Barney!
